Ingredients

  • 4 cups of sliced cooking apples, peeled
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cups soft bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup Sunsweet® Prune Juice or PlumSmart®
  • 1 Tbsp lemon juice
  • Whipped cream (optional)
  • 1 cup coarsely chopped Sunsweet® Pitted Amaz!n™ Prunes

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350F and butter a 1 1/2 to 2 quart shallow baking dish.  Mix apples, brown sugar, cinnamon and salt in a medium bowl.  Mix breadcrumbs and butter in another bowl.  Place 1/3 of the buttered crumbs in the bottom of the baking dish. Top with 1/2 of the apples and prunes. Repeat layers, finishing with a layer of crumbs. Combine prune and lemon juice and pour all over. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake for 15 minutes or more.  Serve warm with whipped cream, if desired.  Makes 6 servings.
