Learn More About Sunsweet®
Sunsweet Growers Inc. is the world's largest handler of dried fruits including prunes, apricots and mangos, and more. We’re a grower-owned cooperative representing more than one-third of the prune market worldwide and we process nearly 70,000 tons of prunes a year!
Founded in 1917 as the California Prune and Apricot Growers Association, our cooperative served as a marketing group to offer our crops to the public under the brand name "Sunsweet". This allowed us to offer prunes to the mainstream market by combining production capabilities and marketing communication. Today, Sunsweet processes and markets the dried fruit production of more than 300 grower-members with orchards primarily throughout California's central valley. After nearly 100 years, we’re proud to say that Sunsweet is one of the top American brands, trusted by our loyal customers.
Our Yuba City, California headquarters is also home to the world's largest dried fruit processing plant, with the highest product quality standards anywhere. Each day, an average of 40,000 cases of Sunsweet products are sealed and marked for worldwide distribution. Sunsweet also holds a bottling facility in Fleetwood, Pennsylvania for its juice products.
Staying close to our customers is important. That’s why Sunsweet products can be purchased at most grocery, drug, and club store retailers throughout the world, or at the Sunsweet Gift Shop.
Committed to A Green Future
Sunsweet® is committed to a green future. From reducing waste to finding new ways to utilize production by-products, our commitment to quality extends beyond our trusted products. After all, we’re farmers, and we wouldn’t be here without a healthy environment.
Steps we’re taking toward a “green” future:
Using co-generated steam power, which eliminates more than 30 tons of greenhouse gases every year. This is equivalent to the annual energy use of nearly 10,000 households.
Recycling as much plastic, cardboard and metal as possible. In 2013, Sunsweet recycled over 100 tons of plastic, over 20 tons of metal and almost 1,000 tons of cardboard.
Using energy-efficient lighting and steam power throughout our facilities, reducing annual electrical consumption by 1,460,000 kwh.
Return 80% of the water we use, after treatment, to city water supply.
Using 100% of prune by-product for livestock feed or alternative energy generation.
Nurturing twenty-four thousand acres of trees in California, all helping to absorb CO2!
Deliciously snackable dried fruit, gift packs, confections and more!
