Prunes are plum full of antioxidants - and may slow the aging process in both body and brain, according to a study from Tufts University in Boston.
Prunes have long been known to be a good source of fiber and as a nutrient-rich fruit with multiple health benefits. But with an anti-oxidant score of 2,428 - MORE THAN BLUEBERRIES at 1,760 - prunes may play an integral role in disease prevention and increased health, according to the study.
Antioxidants have been found to prevent some loss of long-term memory and learning ability. In addition, diets that contain fiber-rich foods such as fruits and vegetables, and are low in fat, saturated fat and cholesterol, are linked to a reduced risk of heart disease and certain cancers.
