California Dried Plum Digestive Health Month - January 2007
EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT
STATE OF CALIFORNIA
PROCLAMATION
Improving and maintaining optimal digestive health can save your life. By educating ourselves about the benefits of a healthy diet, we can stave off many different illnesses and fatal diseases linked to digestive health problems. California’s dried plum industry is committed to lowering the astounding 81 million cases of chronic digestive problems reported each year and to promoting diets that protect our health.
California dried plums are the number-one ideal fruit responsible for digestive health due to their unique combination of soluble and insoluble fiber, potassium, magnesium, iron and Vitamin A. Not only do these important nutrients contribute to a healthy digestive system, dried plums are also packed with strong antioxidants that protect our DNA against damage and can prevent cancer. Our state’s dried plum industry is especially devoted to expanding knowledge and awareness of California agriculture and how it can positively figure into a healthy lifestyle.
This month, I encourage all Californians to incorporate California dried plums into their daily nutritional regimen. By combining this fruit’s health benefits with a conscientious diet, Californians will be on track towards protecting their health, as well as strengthening our state’s flourishing agricultural economy.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER, Governor of the State of California, do hereby proclaim January 2007 as “California Dried Plum Digestive Health Month.”
IN WITNESS WHEREOF I have here unto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of California to be affixed this 5th day of December 2006.
Arnold Schwarzenegger
GOVERNOR OF CALIFORNIA
